Amazon Web Services, or AWS, kicked off in 2006 from Seattle, turning Amazon's backend muscle into a cloud hosting giant that now hosts everything from startups to Fortune 500 apps across 38 regions and 120 availability zones worldwide. Think EC2 for flexible virtual servers, S3 for bulletproof storage, and Lightsail for easy entry-level hosting starting at $5 a month, all with pay-as-you-go pricing that scales without the upfront sting. Amazon Web Services (AWS) users often cheer the seamless auto-scaling and ironclad security that shrugs off threats like they're nothing. Sure, the console can feel like a maze at first. I've wrestled with it myself on a side project, but once you're in, that global backbone delivers uptime you can bank on. For anyone chasing web hosting that grows with wild traffic swings, AWS turns "what if" into "watch this" every day.

Confusing and hard to use
Right from the free trial, it was a mess to navigate. I wanted to try out their VDI setup, so I created a directory and activated a workspace profile. But after downloading the client, which only works smoothly on Ubuntu and forces you to use snapd on Debian, I couldn’t connect at all. Even the web client didn’t work, despite adding my public IP to the trusted list. I didn’t have time to waste, so I gave up and closed my account.
If they want regular users, they need to make the dashboard and guides way clearer. Right now, it feels like they’re only good for clients working through partners. A Linux-based VDI service that handles Windows images better could easily outshine them, Citrix and Azure included.
Double charged and no refund
I’m beyond frustrated with AWS. I signed up for a server with a free trial, and just two days in, they hit me with two $288 charges. I reached out to support, explained I hadn’t used the server, and wanted to cancel. They told me to close my account and promised another team would email about a refund. I did that, but a week later, I got an email from a no-reply address saying no refund. Since I closed my account as they asked, I couldn’t even log in to contact support again. It feels like a total scam, and for a company like Amazon, this is just unacceptable.
Fed up with AWS spam issues
I’ve stopped using Amazon entirely, switching to Temu, AliExpress, or just shopping in stores like the old days. AWS has been letting spammers and scammers run wild for months, maybe a year, sending fake bank emails, fines, and subscriptions. My Yahoo and Gmail inboxes are flooded with unfiltered spam. Reporting to Spamcop or AWS’s abuse team does nothing—they don’t stop new scam accounts or domains. It’s like they’re okay with it. Big tech like Google and Meta aren’t much better, but AWS’s inaction feels like they’re profiting off this mess. If they don’t fix it, more people will ditch them.
Good platform, terrible support
AWS can be powerful once it’s running, with tons of options for our startup. But the downsides are a dealbreaker. Support is awful—we paid €100 a month just to get an AWS issue fixed after two weeks. Logging in is a pain; the root account setup is confusing, and MFA fails a third of the time. Keeping costs in check is nearly impossible, and there’s no default DDoS protection, so we had to add Cloudflare ourselves. Even then, AWS charges for blocked requests, which can skyrocket your bill. We’re only staying because of a partner contract, but we’ll switch to a European provider the second it’s up. The low monthly cost is nice when it works, but if you need help, good luck. Look for a local provider with real support instead.
Avoid AWS at all costs
Stay far away from AWS! I signed up as an individual selling used items online. Years after my last sale, they demanded thousands in fees, took $1,000 from my AWS account, and threatened to charge my card for the rest, claiming I was a business seller. They pushed for my bank details and passport through Qualtrics, even setting up Zoom calls to verify my identity. They never showed up to either call, which made me think they were trying to steal my info. This wasn’t phishing—I used their official link. Their approach was aggressive and rude, manipulating my account from individual to business without my consent. They kept my money and ignored my questions. It’s so bad I’m considering a police complaint. They’re not a service, they’re bullies.
Total nightmare to use
Using AWS is like getting lost in a maze. The interface is a jumble of passwords and terms that make no sense. I tried their free one-year service, but a month in, they started charging me. When I canceled, they tried to bill me double what I expected. It’s predatory and unacceptable—I’d never recommend them to anyone.
Worst company I’ve dealt with
Hands down the worst company ever. Someone shared a personal document, and their customer service was useless. There’s barely any support at all—it’s like they don’t care about their users. Never again!
Horrible experience for a beginner
Trying to learn AWS for the DVA-C02 certification was a nightmare. Signing up was tough—I couldn’t activate my account with my phone number and needed support to sort it out after two days. Then, out of nowhere, they asked for proof of address. I sent my bank statement and passport, but they permanently suspended my account without explanation. I told support I was just learning, but they wouldn’t budge. New learners, skip AWS and try Azure or Google Cloud instead. It’s not worth the hassle or money.
Scammers with awful support
Worst customer service I’ve ever seen. They charged me over £70 for their own mistake and refused to fix it. It’s a complete waste of time—don’t bother with this site.
No support for sellers
Getting help on the seller’s market is like shouting into a void. I opened three tickets and got nothing but an email a month later asking to rate their support. AWS needs to focus on customers, not ignore them!
AWS ignores scammers
I keep getting spam emails linked to AWS, and nothing’s done about it! I’ve reported to Google and AWS support multiple times, but they don’t block the scammers creating new accounts and domains. It’s like AWS doesn’t care about fraud. If this keeps up, it’s no surprise people are boycotting them. They need to take complaints seriously and act, not just log them!
Pretty good performance, but pricey
The actual performance of AWS is solid, though you’re definitely paying a premium for it. You need to plan for failures, but you can manage with open-source tools instead of buying their proprietary ones. It works well if you’re prepared, but the cost can sting.
Customer service is no help
My account got suspended, and I can’t sign in because the verification code goes to my suspended AWS email, which I can’t access. I asked for help from my personal email, but they won’t work with it. They sent links that just loop back to the same unhelpful form I already filled out. It’s a frustrating dead-end—stay away from this service!
Fraudulent charges on my card
I’m filing a police complaint over this. I set up a free AWS account a year ago to test their platform for my company. After browsing for 30 minutes, I decided against it and never used it again. Big mistake not canceling. They charged my Amazon.com card, which they shouldn’t have had, over $700 through Amazon EMEA for services I didn’t authorize. After multiple back-and-forths, they still won’t review the charges. It’s shocking a company this big would pull something like this. I’ve canceled my Prime account and removed all cards from Amazon.com—apparently, their sister companies can charge you without permission. Unreal.
Absolutely the worst
Can’t give them less than zero, but I wish I could. They advertise free services, then hit you with charges. It’s the worst experience imaginable—Amazon’s making a terrible name for itself with this. Don’t bother, they’ll take your money for nothing. Other VPS providers are way better and actually honest.
No action on scam sites
I reported a money laundering site called BigWinner to AWS and asked for serious action, but all I got was a robotic reply. Tons of scam sites run on their systems, and they don’t seem to care about taking responsibility. I hope authorities check their servers. AWS, step up and help fight fraud in real-time, don’t just ignore it.
Site down for over a month
My site’s been down for over a month. There’s no phone support, just low-level bots that don’t fix anything and keep asking for contradictory things. I even went to their Milan office, and all they said was to try finding someone on LinkedIn for help. It’s the most frustrating experience I’ve ever had.
Couldn’t do worse if they tried
If they went out of business, I wouldn’t be shocked. Their customer service is beyond awful—same old ‘we’re verifying’ nonsense with no action. My site, glielementi.it, has been blocked for three weeks, and I can’t get a single clear response or fix. It’s a nightmare.
Feels like a total scam
It’s a complete rip-off. The interface seems designed to trick you into small, unnoticed charges. For a company this big, it’s pathetic and unacceptable.
Payment delays on AWS Marketplace
I’ve been selling on AWS Marketplace for over six months and haven’t seen a dime of the $5,000 I’m owed. At first, they blamed it on my non-US bank account, so I switched to a US one. Still no payments for this month or before. I’ve opened several tickets, but they just get marked as duplicates and closed without any real help. It’s frustrating—I’m paying to keep my services running and taxes on money I haven’t received. AWS needs to fix their payment and support systems to stop hurting sellers like this.
